Medicines to grow dearer

The prices of more than 2,000 drugs will grow by up to 7% following an order by acting Minister of Health Andrei Usatyi to review the prices of imported medicines and medicines produced in the country ensuing the depreciation of the leu against the euro and dollar.

Contacted by IPN, Maria Dragancea, communication specialist at the Medicines and Medical Devices Agency, said the price rises of 2-7%  apply not to the supplies available in drugstores, but to the new supplies. Some of the drugs will be cheapened by 6-51%.

The prices were reviewed following requests made by drug producers. The legislation provides that the producer prices of drugs, approved in lei, can be reviewed at the request of the applicant if the exchange rate of the national currency modifies by over 5% since the ordinance on the producer price approval is issued, if the modification of the exchange rate lasts for at least one month.
