Member of first Parliament intends to go to ECHR

Pantelei Sandulachi, a member of the first Parliament, will go to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) to complain about the functioning of the national judicial system, Info-Prim Neo reports. In a letter to the press, Pantelei Sandulachi comlained that the Supreme Court of Justice pronounced an irreversible decision in his absence, which, while recognizing that his rights had violated in domestic courts, “unjustifiably reduced the damages to a miserable amount”. The former MP told Info-Prim Neo that the court had previously ruled that he should be paid damages of €1.4 million for 9 years of trials on trumped-up charges. After an appeal, the sum was reduced to €400,000. Yesterday, the Supreme Court of Justice reduced it to a mere €1000. Pantelei Sandulachi says that as citizen of this country he will comply. Nonetheless, he highlighted the violations committed by the court: his right to free access to justice was limited and his fundamental rights to a fair trial and effective defense were infringed.
