President Maia Sandu signed the decree granting the Moldovan citizenship to several members of the iconic alternative rock band Bi-2 and their families. This was announced by Adrian Băluțel, head of the presidential staff.
Băluțel said that Moldova “is open to people who choose peace, who promote friendship and respect between peoples”. “Members of the Bi-2 band began to be oppressed in Russia after speaking out against the war in Ukraine. The Republic of Moldova protects human dignity, freedom of expression and solidarity with those who are in danger”, added Băluțel.
The band members and their families applied for Moldovan citizenship in late April.
