Memory Day celebrations start with services

Religious ceremonies in memory of those killed in the Nistru war will be held in Moldova's churches on the Memory Day marked on March 2. Patriotic education classes will be given in schools. A group of priests of the Moldovan and Bessarabian Metropolitan Churches will officiate at a service in the Great National Assembly Square starting at 10 A.M. Flowers will be laid to the monument to Stephan the Great after the service, Info-Prim Neo reports. The Memory Day events will continue with a march along Stefan cel Mare si Sfant Blvd. and Ismail and Pan Halippa streets. A meeting to commemorate the heroes killed in the war for defending Moldova's territorial integrity and sovereignty will be held at the memorial complex “Eternitate” starting at 12 P.M. Afterward, there will be laid flowers at the Grieving Mother monument. Commemoration dinners will be given in all the districts of Chisinau in the afternoon. Veterans will light candles at military men's graves at Saint Lazar Cemetery on Doina St and at the Central Cemetery on Armeneasca St in Chisinau. Flowers will be laid to the monument to the police in Valea Morilor Park. The program of activities was coordinated with the Ministry of Defense and the heads of the public associations of the Nistru war veterans. The public television channel Moldova 1 will broadcast a program themed “18 Years of the Start of the Nistru War. Chronological Events” on March 1, starting at 7.45 P.M.
