MFA refutes statement about extradition of Ukrainians attributed to Deputy Premier Popșoi

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has refuted a statement about the extradition of Ukrainian citizens from the Republic of Moldova attributed to Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popșoi, which was circulated online in Russia. According to the MFA, the falsely attributed statement promotes invented facts and treats non-existent topics in the dialogue and bilateral relations between the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine, IPN reports.

“This statement was never made by Mihai Popșoi. When Minister Mihai Popșoi makes a public statement, this is disseminated every time transparently on the communication platforms of the MFA and the minister,” reads a press release.

The false attribution of non-existent statements is part of a premeditated disinformation campaign targeting the Republic of Moldova with the aim of creating division or sending erroneous messages to the public, the institution specified.

“We urge you to verify erroneous information through the primary source and report it to the social networks on which it is distributed. Do not hesitate to warn your acquaintances and close relatives about it,” says the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ press release.
