Mihai Ghimpu invites former alliance colleagues to negotiations on AEI 3

The Liberal Party chairman Mihai Ghimpu invited the former alliance colleagues to negotiations on the formation of the Alliance for European Integration 3 (AEI 3). In a news conference on April 23, he said that Moldova has been in a state of chaos for four months and this chaos generates corruption, stops reforms and endangers the European integration process, IPN reports.

“The political crisis caused by Vlad Filat has lasted for too long. Any day is a loss for our European future. Dear colleagues from the AEI 1 and AEI 2, the people voted for us so that we improved their lives, not our lives, and reduced poverty. Our Government led by the Prime Minister took over Voronin’s schemes and became rich overnight. I hope the colleagues from the alliance drew conclusions, analyzed and understood that we must immediately sit at the negotiating table and bring the crisis to an end so that we do what we promised to the people,” said Mihai Ghimpu.

According to the Liberal leader, the party already designated three negotiators for forming the AEI 3. These are: Anatol Salaru, Valeriu Munteanu, and Corina Fusu. “We are ready to hold talks from today,” he said.

Referring to the April 22 decision of the Constitutional Court, Mihai Ghimpu said that the constitutional judges reminded those who are in power that Moldova is a democratic state with the rule of law and the power does not belong to the MPs, but to the people. “To designate a person who was dismissed by Parliament for acts of corruption, traffic of influence and abuse of power as a candidate for premiership means to deride democracy. It is regrettable that this was done by the President of Moldova, who is the guarantor of these values,” stated Mihai Ghimpu, stressing that a humiliated head of state means a humiliated people. He added that the Constitutional Court’s decisions are definitive and cannot be challenged.

On April 22, the Constitutional Court decided that the President’s decree to designate Vlad Filat as a candidate for Prime Minister is unconstitutional as Nicolae Timofti was to designate an acting Premier from among the member of the Cabinet who was to serve until the new Government was invested.
