Mihai Godea runs for mayor in order to prevent Igor Dodon from winning

Mihai Godea said he will compete for the post of mayor general of Christian in order not to allow the PCRM's candidate to win the elections. “I will use this campaign as a public communication platform to transmit clear messages to the whole society. The candidates of the democratic parties look weak to me. I do not want to offer Igor Dodon the red carpet to enter the City Hall. Neither while in power, did the Communists win the mayoralty of the City Hall democratically,” Mihai Godea told a news conference at Info-Prim Neo. The politician, who recently defected from the PLDM, criticized the work done by the City Hall during the last four years, while it had been managed by the Liberal Party vice president Dorin Chirtoaca. “Do we vote for portraits? We need efficient local management and services of a high quality in the municipality of Chisinau,” said Mihai Godea. Commenting on the people’s reaction to his decision to run in the mayoral elections, Mihai Godea said he was impressed by the fact that important persons, friends and persons whom he does not know personally sent congratulatory and encouraging messages to him, telling him they will support him in the elections. “I remained surprised when famous people said they support me, but I do not want to anticipate. The PCRM, PLDM, PL and all the other parties will remain surprised,” said the former first vice president of the PLDM. According to Mihai Godea, his decision aroused negative reactions. “I found out from reliable sources that they prepare attacks on the members of my family. I spoke with Mister Roibu (Minister of the Interior) in the morning and asked him not to resort to such things that are dirty in a democratic state. I told him not to touch my brothers or other members of my family. Mister Roibu assured me that he did not give such orders, but will verify if related steps were taken,” Mihai Godea said. Speaking about his election campaign, Mihai Godea said that he will not spend much money on publicity. “I don’t think we will make use of very expensive advertisements as we do not have funds to cover all the costs,” said the politician. May 5 is the last day when the candidates can apply to be registered officially as election runners. Mihai Godea must present at least 10,000 signatures in his support to the Chisinau District Electoral Council.
