Mini-Euro 2012 in National Opera Square
The third edition of the European Mini-football Championship will take place on September 21-23 in the square of the National Opera and Ballet Theater “Maria Biesu”. A mini-pitch was laid in the square, which will host such an event for the first time, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The Moldovan Mini-football Association announced that the tournament would kick-off on Friday, September 21. Moldova will play in Group A, alongside Germany, Slovenia and Slovakia. Moldova’s team is coached by Sergiu Secu, sports director of Rapid Ghidighici.
Romania, Cyprus, Israel and Croatia will meet in Group B. The Czech Republic, Great Britain, Italy and Montenegro will clash in Group C, while Greece, Bulgaria, Turkey and Kazakhstan will play in Group D.
According to the game schedule, the first match is on Friday, September 21, at 8 AM, when Germany meets Slovenia. A new match will begin every hour. Moldova has the first fixture at 7 PM. On Saturday, September 22, the games begin at 10 AM and Moldova will meet Germany at 11 AM. The quarter finals will begin at 6 PM.
On Sunday, the semifinals will take place at 10 AM and 11 AM. The small final will be played at 4 PM and the main final at 6 PM.
Stands were installed in the square of the National Opera and Ballet Theater, so that 2000 people could watch the mini-football championship. The Mini-football Association will spend €70,000 for the organization of this tournament.
Moldova won the right to organize such a competition after receiving praise for its work from the European Mini-football Association. “Although a young member, Moldova progressed rapidly thanks to the consistency and direct involvement of those who are in charge of mini-football”, said Razvan Burleanu, chairman of the European Mini-football Association, during the press conference for the announced of the country that would host the third edition of the championship.
Sixteen countries will participate in the European Mini-football Championship this year. In 2011, Moldova finished 3rd in the tournament in Romania.
