Forty of 100 website postings are from mobile devices, such as smartphones and tablet PCs. Half a year ago, mobile traffic represented only 23%. The Internet users in Moldova spend over 13 hours on average a month on mobile devices and about 15 hours a month on desktop computers. The largest part of the time is allotted for visiting social networking sites, shows data of the Audit Bureau of Circulations and Internet.
Contacted by IPN, the Bureau’s executive director Stanislav Popov said Moldova meets the global trends as regards connection to the Internet from mobile devices. The expansion is due to the increase in the number of devices by which the Internet is accessed, the much more convenient browsing through mobile devices and lower cost of mobile Internet in Moldova compared with the neighboring countries.
“In Moldova, we thus witness the global trends related to the considerable growth of mobile traffic and decline in desktop traffic, as well as the transition from mobile first to mobile only. The same situation is seen in the neighboring states Romania and Ukraine. In Romania, mobile traffic rose from 38% in July 2016 to over 45% in October 2016 for examined websites. Also, Ukraine witnessed a growth from 15% in July 2016 to over 17% in October 2016,” said Stanislav Popov.
The Internet Traffic and Audience Measurement Study is developed permanently. Commencing the first quarter of 2017, the Bureau of Circulations and Internet will publish separate mobile and desktop audience figures.
