The second Protocol amending the Agreement between the governments of Moldova and Romania adds a new article, called “Mutual support in the case of missions and operations”. Mutual logistical and administrative support is established in the process of preparation and participation in missions and operations under the auspices of international organizations, including the European Union. These clarifications were provided by the Ministry of Defense in response to speculations circulating online.
The document also stipulates that Moldovan troops participating in international missions will be logistically supported by the Romanian Army, alongside which they will execute missions, the Ministry added. The National Army has similar examples of cooperation in other international missions, such as KFOR in Kosovo and UNIFIL in Lebanon, where Moldovan peacekeepers are present within Italian Army battalions.
The clarifications come in the context of political statements according to which this amendment will subordinate Moldova’s National Army to the Romanian Army.
