The public TV channel Moldova 1 prepared a special program on the occasion of the 55th anniversary of its foundation. The channel’s director Mircea Surdu has told IPN that video clips, programs and shows will be broadcast on this day, while the festive concert on the Television Day titled “55 Years Together” will start at 17.15 and will be broadcast live.

Musical videos produced in the 1960s will be broadcast by this hour. An interview with TV presenter Angela Arama will be shown at 10.00. There will be also transmitted curiosities about Moldova 1 and an opinion poll about the channel. “World Stories – world in reports”, which is a co-production of TRM and Deutsche Welle, will be shown at 12.30.

At 13.35, singer Olga Ciolacu will speak about her cooperation with Moldova 1, while at 14.35 cameraman Victor Paraconii will present sketches about personalities that worked at TRM over time.

The festive concert on the Television Day starts at 17.15. It will involve Zinaida Julea, Ion Suruceanu, “Lautarii” Orchestra headed by Nicolae Botgros, the Orchestra of the Advahov Brothers and others. Among the invitees are President Nicolae Timofti, interim Prime Minister Iurie Leanca, and Moldova’s second President Petru Lucinschi.

Speaking about the 55 years of the foundation of the public TV channel, Mircea Surdu voiced hope that Moldova 1 is important to the Moldovans. “This is their first television. It is the television that fully represents them at least 50%. It represents their interests and I hope that we meet the expectations,” he stated.

The first program of the Moldovan television was broadcast on April 30, 1958 at 19.00. Andrei Timus was the first director of the TV channel. He was later a correspondent-member of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova.
