Moldova 21s eliminated in CIS Cup quarter finals

The under-21 national football team of Moldova will fight for the 5th -8th places at the Commonwealth of Independent States and Baltic Countries Cup after on Wednesday, January 25, the Tricolors were defeated by cup favorites Russia, 2-1, Info-Prim Neo reports. The Russians led thanks to goals from Bairamian and Jestokov. Moldova’s Ion Prodan pulled one back on 66 minutes, but the Tricolors’ efforts to get a leveler failed. “We wanted to win a lot. At times we showed great football. Unfortunately, we scored one goal less than them”, Moldovan coach Alexandru Curteian declared after the game. The first match of the mini-tournament for 5th-8th places will take place on January 27, when the Moldovans take on Iran, which lost on penalties to Latvia, while the other match will be played between Kazakhstan and Lithuania. Ukraine will meet Belarus and Latvia will face Russia in the CIS Cup quarter finals. The final will be played on Sunday, January 29.
