Moldova and Portugal to cooperate in academic sector

The Academies of Sciences of Moldova and of Lisbon, Portugal signed an agreement on scientific cooperation. The two states will do researches in social sciences, centering on migration, European integration and demography. Victor Moraru, director of the Academy of Sciences’ Institute of European Integration and Political Sciences, has told Info-Prim Neo that Moldova and Portugal are in the process of identifying projects and financial resources for implementing them. “We did researches on migration, particularly the migration of Moldovans in Spain and Italy. Those who are in Portugal remained in an unexplored niche. After we saw that there are many Moldovans in Portugal during Moldova’s Culture Days, we decoded that this phenomenon should be studied,” stated Victor Moraru. Moldova can learn from Portugal’s experience as regards the European integration. “Portugal already covered the road through which we go now. We plan to cooperate in this field with our counterparts from Lisbon,” said Victor Moraru. He specified that Moldova is the first country of the Eastern Partnership that obtained the status of associate country of the European Community’s Framework Program for Research and Technological Development. The signing of the cooperation agreement between the academies of sciences of Chisinau and Lisbon and with other institutions like the University of Lisbon, the Higher Institute of Social and Political Sciences of the Technical University of Lisbon follows Moldova’s integration into the European Scientific Research Area. Victor Moraru said the signed agreements envision common researches, organization of international conferences and seminars, training of scientists within joint programs, etc. The visit paid by the representative of the Moldovan academic environment to Lisbon was possible owing to the involvement of the Embassy of Moldova in Portugal and Ambassador Valeriu Turea, who made effort to initiate the Moldovan-Portuguese scientific cooperation. Over several months, the Embassy of Portugal mediated the signing of three agreements in the academic sector. The agreements were signed between the Academy of Sciences of Moldova and the Academy of Sciences of Lisbon, the Technical University of Moldova and the Technical University of Lisbon, and the State University of Moldova and the Higher Institute of Social and Political Sciences of Lisbon.
