The Ministries of Energy of Moldova and Romania on Thursday signed a Memorandum of Understanding for cooperation in the field of energy, with a focus on innovation and digitalization. The agreement was concluded at an official ceremony in Chisinau and marks a new stage in energy cooperation, IPN reports.
The document provides for the implementation of joint projects and partnerships for the development of innovative technologies in the energy sector. It will facilitate the exchange of best practices, investments attraction and promotion of startups in the field, with the aim of modernizing energy infrastructure and diversifying energy sources.
Minister of Energy Victor Parlicov, stressed the importance of the agreement for the sustainable development of the national energy sector.
"Romania has been by our side in difficult times and continues to support us in our efforts to build a modern and efficient energy system. This innovation partnership will help us accelerate the decarbonization of the energy sector and achieve our 2050 climate targets," said Minister Parlicov.
For his part, Minister of Energy of Romania Sebastian Burduja highlighted the memorandum’s contribution to the integration of the Republic of Moldova into the European energy market.
"Without energy there is no economy. Romania is not only a safety cushion for Moldova. Romania is a partner and a brother. This memorandum is not just a document, but creates the basis for financing startups, including from over the Prut. Our joint projects are ambitious and vital, both as regards interconnections and the gas area. We consider it a moral duty to support the Republic of Moldova and to do everything possible to ensure a secure and prosperous energy future,” said the Romanian official.
