The Republic of Moldova became a permanent observer at the Organization of American States (OAS). The status was conferred by the resolution of the OAS Permanent Council on December 1, IPN reports.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Moldova within the OAS aims to develop inter-sector cooperation with the member states in areas of common interest such as economic growth, trade promotion and development opportunities.
The Ministry says the OAS is a favorable platform for strengthening the bilateral relations with the states of the North America, Latin America and the Caribbean.
The Organization of American States is an intercontinental organization founded in 1948, for the purposes of regional solidarity and cooperation among its member states and of consolidating democracy and human rights. Headquartered in Washington, D.C., United States, the OAS’s members are the 35 independent states of the Americas, with 69 states having the status of observer within it.
