This week is Holocaust Remembrance Week in Moldova, with a series of activities planned that aim to encourage young people to embrace interethnic tolerance and intercultural dialog, and prevent racism, antisemitism and other forms of intolerance.

The Interethnic Relations Agency is hosting on its website the online photo exhibition called “Rabbis of Europe in the Holocaust”. The exhibited photographs tell the stories of 12 religious and spiritual leaders of the Jewish communities in Moldova, Romania, Lithuania, Poland, Ukraine and other countries, who remain to be an example of courage, morality and high universal spiritual values. The exhibition is organized by the “Agudath Israel” Synagogue.

In educational institutions, the Holocaust Remembrance Day on January 27 will be marked by keeping a moment of silence in memory of the Holocaust victims.

The Ministry of Education and Research is encouraging the educational community to join the International #WeRemember Campaign, dedicated to the International Holocaust Remembrance Day. “It is our responsibility to raise awareness of this unprecedented tragedy in history and to educate the younger generations in the spirit of democracy and the rights of fundamental freedoms,” the ministry said in a statement.

In Bender, a Memorial to Holocaust Victim will be unveiled at the Jewish Cemetery. Meanwhile in Chisinau, a requiem event featuring a flower laying ceremony at the Monument to the Victims of Fascism will be held under the patronage of the Moldovan Prime Minister.

During the Holocaust Remembrance Week, bilboards will be inaugurated in educational and research institutions, libraries, museums, and youth centers across Moldova. Roundtables, discussion and conference workshops, virtual tours of Holocaust museums, book presentations, etc. are also planned.
