Moldova manager facing squad problems
Moldova manager Gabi Balint is facing some selection problems ahead of the friendly against Kazakhstan, as only 17 out of 25 players answered Balint's call, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Key players will be missing, including Valeriu Catinsus, Vitalie Bordian, Sergiu Dadu, Sergiu Lascencov and Denis Calincov, some of them injured. At the same time, Nicolae Josan and Alexandru Gatcan announced they were quitting Moldova's national team altogether. Stanislav Ivanov didn't answer the phone, while Sergiu Covalciuc refused the call-up for undisclosed reasons. To somehow fill the gaps in the squad, Balint called earlier unannounced Dacia midfielder Eugen Gorceac.
Despite these difficulties, Balint wishes a positive outcome of the first match as Moldova manager. “For me the result of this match is crucial. Until autumn we'll have few matches, so now I want to know who of the called-up players I can rely on”, the Romanian said.
Moldova will encounter Kazakhstan on March 3 in the Turkish resort of Antalya, Ataturk stadium.
