The Republic of Moldova will provide humanitarian assistance to the value of over 8 million lei to Turkey, which was seriously hit by quakes earlier last month, as the Cabinet decided on Wednesday, IPN reports.
“In solidarity with the people of Turkey who are in an extremely difficult situation, assessing the own capacities, the Ministry of Internal Affairs responded to the Government of Turkey and identified a consignment of goods. These will be shipped with the involvement of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations,” stated Minister Ana Revenco.
The consignment consists of sleeping bags, bedclothes, hygiene products, baby food and other things.
The powerful quakes that struck Turkey and Syria early in February caused huge destruction and claimed over 54,000 lives.
Alongside other countries, the Republic of Moldova detached an urban search and rescue team consisting of 55 rescuers to Turkey. The Moldovan rescuers managed to pull alive a three-year-old boy from the debris.
