The Republic of Moldova will follow Georgia’s steps in reforming the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA). These steps were discussed at Chisinau, during a conference with the participation of Georgian experts and subdivision heads from Moldova’s MIA, reports Info-Prim Neo. The event was organized with the help of the Embassy of the United States of America. Ambassador William Moser stated this is a difficult path of reform, but the final goal can be achieved, as it has been proven by Georgia, which can share its experience with Moldova. According to the diplomat, Moldova can always count on the support and assistance of the United States of America. Prime-minister Vlad Filat, having been present at the event, stated that the reforms, the Government of Moldova has in goal, aim at assuring the fundamental level of human rights. The reform inititated at the MIA is a long-term project, based on a concept develop by both national and foreign experts after lengthy consulting with the field’s local and international organizations. Vlad Filat added that he was impressed by Georgia’s success in fighting against corruption and organized crime. The Republic of Moldova will make full use of the Georgian experience, adapting it to the needs of the Moldovan reality. Vlad Filat mentioned that he will make an official visit to Georgia at the beginning of July, during which he will request consultancy regarding the implementation of this reform. Deputy Assistant Secretary General Ekaterina Zguladze said that every country chooses its own path for reform implementation. The key in Georgia’s success is that Georgian policemen showed respect towards their society, and the society respected them back. Up to present the MIA servicemen have been on 5 documentation visits to Georgia, which, according to Minister Alexei Roibu, contributed to the acceleration of the reform.
