Moldova to fulfill over 200 UN recommendations on human rights

A plan of action that the Moldovan authorities must implement to fulfill the over 200 recommendations of the UN in the area of human rights was drafted within an international conference staged by the Council for the Prevention and Elimination of Discrimination and Ensuring of Equality and the People’s Ombudsman Office of Moldova, IPN reports.

The main suggestions formulated by the participants in the conference say the Government of Moldova must first of all ensure the justice sector reform is really implemented. This reform remains the main impediment in the process of implementing the UN recommendations on human rights.

Yan Feldman, director of the Council for Ensuring of Equality, recommended the authorities to implement efficient mechanisms for ensuring the functioning of the legal framework on human rights. “There are serious problems as regards domestic violence. The lack of reaction to domestic violence represents discrimination. We need appropriate legislation on hate crimes,” stated Feldman.

Deputy Minister of Justice of Moldova Eduard Serbenko assured all the suggestions formulated in the conference will be taken into account so as to successfully implement the UN recommendations on human right.

At the General Assembly held in Geneva during October 31 - November 11, 2016, the United Nations Human Rights Council adopted over 200 recommendations for Moldova concerning the observance of human rights.
