Moldova U-21 continue bad streak in 2013 Euro qualifiers
Moldova Under-21s added a fourth consecutive defeat to their losing streak in the qualifying round of the 2013 European Football Championship after being hammered by Portugal 0-5 on Thursday, November 10.
The match marked a debut for the former national team captain Alexandru Curteian as manager of the Under-21s.
Portugal dominated forcefully the game and by the end of the first half the scoreboard read 4-0, after Nelson Oliveira completed a brace and Rui Fonte and Sana also found the target. In the second half the hosts tempered their attacking zeal to score just one last goal thanks to Abel.
The failure in Portugal came just a month after a humiliating 0-6 defeat dealt by Russia.
After these disappointing outcomes, the Tricolors are at the bottom of the qualifying Group 6 without earning a single point. Russia lead the group with a maximum of 12 points, followed by Portugal and Poland, with 7 points each.
Moldova Under-21s' next game is slated for Monday, November 14.
