Moldova will host Federation Cup matches
In 2013 Moldova will host matches from the 3rd Euro-African group of the Federation Cup at women’s tennis. The competition that will take place next May will gather 12 participant countries, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“We take pride in the fact that the International Federation trusted us with organizing this competition. We have awaited this moment for 2 years”, said Marina Tauber, president of the Moldovan Tennis Federation.
Tauber admits that there’s still a lot of work to do, especially regarding infrastructure. “The international body will send us a set of requirements concerning the organization of such events. We must improve the infrastructure, so it corresponds to the standards of the Federation Cup”, Tauber said.
It is estimated that the Federation needs $50,000 to organize the event. One fifth of the money will be allotted by the international forum.
Moldova’s women’s tennis team is participating for its ninth consecutive season in the third Euro-African group of the Federation Cup, which brings together the lowest-ranked national women’s teams.
In 2004, Moldova hosted a similar tournament within the Davis Cup men’s international competition. At the time, the Moldovan tennis players occupied the third place among 8 participant teams.
