Moldova wins gold at European Wrestling Championships
Moldovan sportsman Anatol Buruian won the golden medal in 50kg category at the Junior European Wrestling Championships in Samokov, Info-Prim Neo reports.
In the first game, Buruian defeated Artur Eisenkrein from Germany (1-0, 1-0). In the final, he bested Russian wrestler Magomed Magomedaliev (1-0, 2-0). Buruian graduated from the National Sports Lyceum in Chisinau and was one of the winners of the Junior World and European Wrestling Championships in 2009.
Wednesday, June 30, 3 other Moldovans entered the competition: Gheorghe Darii, 55 kg category, Igor Moroi, 66 kg, and Ion Sarbu, 84 kg.
Women’s competition will take place on July 1 and 2. Moldova will be represented by Irina Prisacari, 48 kg, Maria Gaidau, 55 kg, and Mariana Esanu, 59 kg. The latter was last year’s European champion.
The Greco-Roman wrestlers will compete on July 3 and 4.
After the first day of the contest, Moldova is ranked 7th out of 26 participating countries, with 16 points. Russia tops the table with 37 points.
