Moldovan Academy of Sciences founds Grigore Vieru Prize

The Moldovan Academy of Sciences (ASM) announced today it will establish the Grigore Vieru Prize to annually reward the most valuable researches in grammar and literature, Info-Prim Neo reports. “The proposal belongs to Academy Chairman Gheorghe Duca”, said Ion Vartan, advisor to ASM chairman. In a press statement from ASM, it is said that the Academy grieves the death of Grigore Vieru, whom it treasures as a great man of culture. “It was a blessing that the Lord gave us Grigore Vieru, the poet of national consciousness, the poet of Moldovans' sufferings. This is an irrecoverable loss for the entire academic community of the country”, the statement reads. On 27 August 2007, on National Language Day, the Academy of Sciences conferred the title of Doctor Honoris Causa on Grigore Vieru.
