Moldovan Army officers join “Combined Endeavor 2008” multinational exercise

16 officers of the National Army are participating during April 29 - May 26 in the multinational communications and information systems interoperability exercise “Combined Endeavor 2008”, taking place in the German town of Baumholder, Info-Prim Neo learned from the Moldovan Ministry of Defense. According to Lt. Col. Igor Zavalski, chief of the J6 Communication & Informatics Div, the goal of the exercise is to attain a high degree of technical and software interoperability among multinational contingents engaged in a humanitarian or peace-keeping mission. Lt. Col. Zavalski believes the participation of Moldovan communication officers in “Combined Endeavor” is very useful from professional point of view. Moldovan military men have the opportunity to get familiar with the modern technologies used by Western armies, which is very important for the modernization process of the National Army. Dubbed Combined Endeavor 2008 (CE 08), the exercise is the largest and most powerful security cooperation effort of its kind. The exercise is a demonstration of true "Active Security" - a peaceful engagement that can result in the prevention of future conflicts. The exercise emphasizes command, control, communications and computer (C4) integration and interoperability as its goal. A total of 38 nations and two multi-national organizations, NATO and the South Eastern Europe Brigade (SEEBRIG) are participating in CE 08. Partnership for Peace nations include Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Georgia, Kyrgyz Republic, Macedonia, Moldova, Russia and Ukraine. Moldovan officers have been participating in CE since 1999.
