Moldovan artists named Vasile celebrate St Basil Feast

January 14 in Moldova has been always an occasion to continue the winter holidays so that a large part of the population, including the artists who bear this name, observe the Feast of Saint Basil the Great. However, not all the men named Vasile will be celebrating as they consider the holidays are over and it is time to start work, Info-Prim Neo reports There will be a great feast in the family of the Advahov brothers. One of them bears the name Vasile. Their father is also Vasile. “Traditionally, we celebrate this day at our parents' home in Bubuieci,” said Vasile Advahov. “Our mother prepares delicious food: Moldovan soup, pies, forcemeat rolls of cabbage and other delicacies. I accept no concert on this day. I sing only for my mother and the relatives who visit us. I worked on New Year's Eve as I participated in the concert held in the Great National Assembly Square. Saint Basil is a holiday that must be spent together with the family,” the artist said. The family of the folk singer Vasile Marin will also celebrate today. The artist has even two songs for this feast - “Stop Drinking Vasile” and “The New Year is Coming”. “I have celebrated Saint Basil since childhood,” he said. “There is great joy in our village Vorniceni on this day. My father is also Vasile and my parents devoted special attention to this holiday. On the eve of Saint Basil I often went to sing congratulation songs through the village together with my friends. The second day we had a feast. My family continues this tradition. We start celebrating at 2.00 PM.” Another folk singer, Vasile Mereuta, celebrates all the holidays according to the old, Julian calendar. His family observes all the religious traditions. The Feast of Saint Basil is liked the most as it is also the dedication day of the house. “We start to celebrate on the eve, when it is New Year's Eve according to the old calendar. My wife prepares meat jelly, forcemeat rolls of cabbage, pound cake and other food. My colleagues sing songs for me, playing the panpipe, accordion and violin,” said Vasile Mereuta, adding he also goes to church to listen to one of the major liturgies of the year. Panpipe player Vasile Iovu said the Feast of Saint Basil the Great was on January 1. “I celebrate this holiday together with the whole world on January 1,” he said. “All my family comes together. We also have guests. I think we must forget about the Russian-Moldovan traditions and celebrate all the holidays according to the Gregorian calendar. It is not right to celebrate one month long. In fact, the Moldovans like feasting, but it is time to start work. January 14 will be an ordinary workday for me, with rehearsals and concerts.” The stage manager of the National Palace will also work today. “We will have rehearsals for the commemoration concert for Mihai Eminescu so that I will work all day long,” Vasile Stratulat said. “Sometimes I manage to celebrate this feast. I hope today I will drink at least a glass of champagne. It will be hard day for me. When I was a child, we often celebrated this day.”
