Moldovan boxers eliminated from European Champs

The Moldovan boxers had a poor performance at the European Boxing Championships held in Moscow. After two days of competition, seven of the nine Moldovan boxers taking part in the championships were knocked out, Info-Prim Neo reports. Three boxers were eliminated on Monday, June 7. Alexandru Rascan (51 kg class) lost to Italy's Vincenzo Picardi, Vasile Tacu (60 kg) was defeated by Sweden's Redouane Kaya, while Valeriu Sarbu (64 kg) by Romania's Georgian Popescu. Vasile Belous, Victor Cotiujanschi, Vladimir Cheles and Mihail Muntean were knocked out earlier. The last two Moldovan boxers will enter the competition the next days. Veaceslav Gojan, the leader of the national squad who won bronze at the Beijing Olympics, will face Salum Ntuve from Sweden in the first game. Petru Apostol (57 kg) will play Ireland's Tyrone McCullagh. The European Boxing Championships close on Sunday, June 13.
