This means that they have already secured bronze medals. In the 52kg quarter-finals, Alexandru Rishcan beat Georgiy Chygayev of Ukraine, 20-15. For a place in the finals, Rishcan will fight Wales' Andrew Selby. The front runner of the Moldova team, Veacheslav Gojan, obtained qualification without a fight in the next to last act of the contest in the 56kg category, as Bulgaria's Detelin Dalakliev didn't make it past the weigh-in. In the semifinals, Gojan will fight Romania's Nicolae Razvan Andreiana. Semifinals will be held on Thursday, June 23. As a result, Moldova's boxing team has joined the list of athletes, alongside the weightlifting, athletics, wrestling and Judo teams, that won at least one medal in the 2011 European championships.
