Moldovan doctors arrested in Romania for procuring and trafficking in persons

A couple from Moldova, both doctors by occupation, and their son were placed under arrest for 30 days. Initially, the family was investigated for procuring, but a new charge was made against them later, of trafficking in persons, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting the website of Mediafax. The family recruited girls from Moldova and Romania, promising them that they will work as babysitters and housekeepers in Romania. In reality, they had several erotic massage offices where they obliged the young women to prostitute themselves. The Romanian police accused them of procuring when they identified eight young women employed by the family, who prostituted themselves voluntarily. As a result of investigations, there were found another six young women who were obliged to do it after they were dispossessed of documents. The six women are aged between 19 and 33 and were recruited by newspaper announcements placed in Moldova. It is for the first time that Romania is mentioned in a criminal case as a target country for trafficking in persons, not as a source country for trafficking in persons. The family is also investigated for money laundering and tax evasion. The suspects collected incomes of over 300,000 Romanian lei without recording them in the financial records. The Pruteanu couple obtained qualifications in Moldova. They moved to Brasov three years ago. Their son is a medical student in Constanta.
