Moldovan embassies and consulates abroad could issue passports to nationals
Prime Minister Vlad Filat raised again the issue of obtaining of identification papers by the Moldovans working abroad. “Now they need powers of attorney to be issued with passports in Moldova through the agency of another person. This is not right as the costs they incur are as high as those for obtaining a passport as an urgency, which is three times dearer,” Filat said, quoted by Info-Prim Neo.
Minister of Information and Communication Technology Alexandru Oleinic explained that the powers of attorney are to be validated by the courts of the countries where they were issued, but this procedure takes time, especially when applying for the first passport.
The Premier instructed the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology to examine the situation and see what can be done to facilitate the obtaining of passports by power of attorney and equalize the costs and to draft a relevant government decision.
Vlad Filat recommended considering the possibility of empowering the Moldovan embassies and consulates abroad to issue passports to the citizens working in foreign countries.
