Moldovan football on the verge of a revolution
Moldova could soon have, for the first time, a Professional Football League (LPF). It would take on from the Moldovan Football Federation (FMF) the organization of domestic competitions.
An agreement was reached on Thursday, January 1, between the heads of 10 Moldovan clubs. The initiative belongs to Adlan Sishanov, chairman of Dacia Chisinau. However, Sheriff Tiraspol, FC Tiraspol, Dinamo Bender and Rapid Ghidighici representatives didn’t attend the meeting.
The creation of the Professional League would require FMF’s accord. Pavel Cebanu, head of the Moldovan football governing body, said he totally supported this initiative.
The League would organize the National Division and the Moldovan Cup. It would handle referee and disciplinary issues, negotiations with TV channels regarding the broadcast of matches, and advertising offers for sponsors.
Most of the European championships have a similar body, which is meant to help the development of clubs and to make football even more popular.
