Moldovan tennis players boast accomplishments
The women’s U-16 and U-18 tennis teams of Moldova finished third at the European Summer Cups 2011, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The tennis players were congratulated by the president of the National Tennis Federation Marina Tauber. “I want to congratulate the girls on the achieved results. We have not seen such performance during many years,” Marina Tauber told a news conference.
“Such accomplishments inspire the other tennis players of Moldova” said Olga Cosac, captain of the U-16 squad.
“We had worthy opponents, but performed well. The British team for example was surprised by Moldova’s performance,” said Valeriu Helbet, coach of the U-18 team.
In the Junior Fed Cup intended for girls younger than 16, Moldova scored two victories against Slovenia and Bulgaria (3-0) and were beaten by the UK (1-2). Moldova was represented by Iulia Sergheeva, Alina Soltanich and Daniela Ciobanu.
In the U -18 Soisbaul/ Reina Cup tournament, Moldova won against the UK and Hungary (2-1), but lost to Russia (0-3). Moldova’s representatives were Anastasia Vdovenko, Gabriela Porubin and Mesila Martynov.
