Moldovan wrestler Ianulov wins gold at World University Championship
Moldova's wrestler Piotr Ianulov has won the gold medal in the 84kg category at the World University Wrestling Championship in the Italian city of Turin, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Making his way to the podium, Ianulov successively defeated Lithuania's Morkis Giedrius, Mike Usman of the U.S. and Russia's Anton Vlasenkov, beating Ukraine's Taras Luzhny in the final.
In September, Ianulov came in fifth place at the World Championship.
Three other Moldovan wrestlers were close to getting the bronze medals: Alexandru Chirtoaca (55 kg), Vladimir Gotisan (66 kg) and Andrei Podsevalnicov (120 kg), but they all lost their decisive matches and all finished 5th in their categories.
On Wednesday, October 27, the last three Moldovan wrestlers are expected to enter the competition: Andrei Prepelita (60 kg), Anisim Talambat (74) and Nicolae Ceban (96 kg).
The 9th World University Wrestling Championship brought together 400 athletes from 39 countries.
