Moldovan youth dissatisfied with state of things in country
The Moldovan youth are unhappy with the state of things in the country. The results of an opinion poll, publicized this week, outline the youth's concern especially with the political life, but also with poor living conditions, lack of jobs and the development of the healthcare system, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The research has been done within a project “Transitions of childhood and youth in a transforming society: Moldova's Case.”
According to Mariana Mascauteanu, a master in sociology with the Independent Institute of Sociology and Information (SISI) “Opinia”, the poor support from the state made most of the interviewed to say the authorities are not or very little aware of the youth's problems.
According to the survey, 77% of the young respondents are unhappy with the Government carrying out its functions. 96% say they cope with problems, the most serious of which is money shortage/poverty (76%), the lack of a job (51%), poor living conditions (47.7%), lack of conditions and opportunities for self-assertion (46.4%). 42.9% say they are not confident in the future.
The youth's optimism as to overcoming the crisis period is rather moderate. Only one fifth believe Moldova has overcome the hardest time after the transition was launched, as one third of the interviewed say Moldova now passes through its hardest period.
The survey was made on 2,000 people, aged 16-30, from 92 Moldovan localities, except for the Transnistrian area.
The project is a partnership of research teams from UK, Hungary and Moldova.
