Moldovans want to be part of European family

The Moldovan people want Moldova to form part of the European Union, according to the sociological survey “Vox Populi” for November-December 2008. The poll shows that if a referendum on Moldova joining the EU was held next Sunday, 68% of the respondents would vote in favor, 8% would vote against and only 4% would not vote. 20% of those surveyed could not say how they would vote, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to the study, the Moldovans have a different opinion about Moldova joining NATO. If a referendum on this topic was held, only 24% of those polled would vote for, while 33% would vote against. 28% of the respondents do not know if Moldova should join NATO. There are persons that do not know what NATO stands for. The respondents do not have a common opinion as regards the current government’s capabilities to reunify the country. 28% of those questioned consider that the Transnistrian conflict would be solved, 44% think that this would not be possible, while about 25% don’t know whether the authorities will manage to reunify the country. About 72% of the respondents consider that Moldova has the best relations with Russia, 55% with Ukraine, 46% with the United States, 44% with the EU and 41% with Romania.
