Moldova’s squad for EYOF leaves for Gyor

Moldova’s team for the 14th European Youth Olympic Festival that will take place in Hungary’s Gyor during July 23-30 was presented at the Olympic House. This consists of 29 athletes who will compete in six events. The squad leaves for Gyor on July 21, IPN reports.

Judoka Eugen Matveichuk, who recently returned from the European Junior Championships with bronze, will carry Moldova’s flag.

“Welcome to the Olympic family. We are proud of your results and wish your success at the tournament in Hungary,” said the delegation’s head Victor Peicov, vice president of the National Olympic and Sports Committee.

Moldova’s colors will be defended by: Nina Capatana, Cristian Chornenki, Alexei Culis, Nicolae Popa, Dmitrii Sandul, Ana Stefanita, Carolina Vasilachi, Vladimir Vasilcovschi (athletics), Adil Osmanov, Petru Pelivan, Dan Buzica, Eugen Matveichuk, Grigore Taban, Ilie Dorofeev (judo), Anastasia Basisto, Nichita Bortnicov, Maria Danilova, Alexandra Deinenko, Andrei Lupu (swimming), Eduard Gobjila, Andrei Novikov, Gheorghe Jugurt (cycling), Ana Plamadeala, Andrei Suhovei, Cristina Griniko (canoe), Bogdan Boclinca, Renata Farima, Arina Gamretkaya and Ilia Snitari (tennis).

At the previous EYOF held in Tbilisi, Moldova had the best performance in its history, ranking sixth in the medal standings out of 37 participating states. Swimmer Alexei Sankov won three gold medals and a silver, athlete Alexandra Emilianov and judoka Ion Mihailov won by a gold, while swimmer Tatiana Salcutan medalled silver.
