“Moldova’s Youth” submits petition to Parliament, asks responsibility from government

The civic movement “Moldova’s Youth” filed a petition to the government, demanding responsibility and declaration of the course to the EU as the official external development course. The young people also demand that the posts of prosecutor general and president of the Supreme Court of Justice should be occupied by persons from the EU proposed by the development partners. The petition was presented in a news conference at IPN.

A member of the civic movement Vlad Biletski said that by this petition, the young people express their concern at the fact that the national political forces do not want to cooperate in the people’s interests, even if it’s already two months since the legislative elections. “We witness a stiff struggle for influence and interests, for political and clientele control of the law enforcement bodies and the institutions that benefit from funds for being able to commit frauds and launder money,” the young man said, reading the petition.

The petitioners demand releasing the law enforcement bodies and the legal system from captivity, naming specialists from the EU, who would be recommended by Moldova’s strategic partners, to the posts of prosecutor general and president of the Supreme Court of Justice, conducting investigations into the de-nationalization of the state property in 2001-2015, de-monopolizing the media, eliminating the constraints on civil society, adopting the Lustration Law, the Law on Transparency in Party Funding, and the Law on Transparency in Broadcasting, equitably regulating the activity of the Russian channels and introducing the electronic vote.

The movement’s head Dinu Plangau said the young people decided not to stage protests, but to submit a petition, to which a number of NGOs already subscribed. On January 30, the petition will be submitted to Parliament. During one day, it was signed by over 400 persons.

Member Corina Bezer said the young people want a European country that would not stay on two chairs – the West and the East. “We want the people’s voice to be heard. We want transparency in the process of taking political decision. We do not want obscene gestures in Parliament and a commission on culture led by MPs with bad reputation,” she stated.

The members of the civic movement announced that the petition will be soon available on the Internet.
