Moldova's Zalina Marghiev wins gold medal at European Cup
Moldova's hammer thrower Zalina Marghiev won the U-23 competition at the European Cup Winter Throwing meeting in the French city of Arles this weekend, with a toss of 70.77 meters, Info-Prim Neo reports.
This result surpasses by more than one meter the Olympic “A” standard and defends Zalina's gold medal won in 2009.
Zalina won with a wide lead, with the second-best Jenny Ozorai of Hungary managing a toss of 63.03 meters.
Zalina's older sister, Marina Marghiev, placed 6th in the senior women's hammer throw event, with a toss of 67.33 meters, which also surpasses the Olympic standard, but this time in the “B” category.
Both athletes are coached by their father, Soslan Marghiev.
