The monthly allowance for raising a child aged under three will constitute 30% of the calculation base from January 1, 2010, as against 25% at present, but not less than 300 lei per child, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting an amendment bill approved by the Government. Minister of Labor, Social Protection and Family Valentina Buliga said the allowance is paid to one of the parents, grandmother or grandfather or other relatives who look after the child at request, if they are insured and meet a series of conditions. A sum of 251.45 million lei for 31,906 beneficiaries was earmarked in the state social insurance budget for paying childcare allowances. Thus, the average monthly childcare allowance will be 657 lei, in contrast to 478 lei at present.
