A monument to victims of political repression and the totalitarian Communist regime will be built in Leova town. The initiative was supported by the Government, Info-Prim Neo reports. The designing of the monument will be coordinated by the Leova Town Council and the Ministry of Culture. The initiative to erect the monument was put forward by a group of former deportees from Leova. The monument will be built with money from the budget of Leova town and with sponsorships and donations. In the period of political repression, about 2,000 persons from Leova district were deported to the Siberian gulags. Most of them died in those camps. Those who managed to return home were rehabilitated in 1990-1991.
