Monument with the Ten Commandments to be placed in Cathedral square

The architectural composition “The Ten Commandments”, which will be put up in the square of the Metropolitan Cathedral in Chisinau, will be seven meters high. By a commandment will be written on ten stones, translated into 33 languages, Info-Prim Neo reports. Boris Ciobanu, chairman of the municipal committee “Spiritual Harmony,” voiced hope that the foundation stone will be placed by Easter. “The idea of building such a monument appeared in 2004, but the Chisinau Council approved the construction only in 2006. As there we no financial resources, it couldn’t be built. We hope that the faithful people will contribute money so that we can erect it,” he stated. Ion Mereuta, head of the National Council of the Christian-Orthodox International Alliance, said that the foundation stone costs about 6,000 lei. It will carry the words: “Architectural complex The Ten Commandments”. All the stones for the monument will be brought from Cosauti. One stone costs about 50,000 lei. Vadim Cheibas, secretary of the Moldovan Metropolitan Church, said that this monument will update the moral values stipulated in the commandments left by God to Moses, which were and remain topical. “The laws given by God are eternal and must be respected,” said the priest. The National Council of Historical Monuments of the Ministry of Culture is to decide the exact place where the monument will be located.
