Morbidity in Moldova is 80% determined by non-transmitted diseases

About 80% of all the diseases in Moldova are determined by non-transmitted diseases, including cardiovascular diseases, malignant tumors, diseases of the digestive and respiratory systems, endocrinal diseases and metabolic disorders, and diseases of the nervous system. Morbidity of diseases of the circulatory system is dominant in Moldova. It rose about 1.5 times over the last 10 years. Contacted by Info-Prim Neo, the head of the Cardiac Insufficiency Department of the Institute of Cardiology Eleonora Vataman said that in 70% of the cases the cardiovascular diseases are associated with hypertension. The cardiovascular diseases constantly rank first among the causes of death, representing about 57% of the total number of deaths in the last 10 years. She also said the fact that 26% of these deaths occur at socially productive ages is alarming. As a matter of fact, the cardiovascular disability of persons of working age constitutes 20% of the cases of disability because of other diseases. The most prominent non-transmitted diseases are connected with such common risk factors as smoking, alcohol abuse, unhealthy food and sedentarism. The national strategy for the prevention and control of non-transmitted diseases for 2012-2020 aims to reduce premature mortality, morbidity and disability caused by non-transmitted diseases by integrated actions so as to increase healthy life expectancy and life expectancy at birth.
