More expensive medical services as from July 1

The Cabinet approved, on the initiative of the Ministry of Health, the adjustment of fees for medical services and the introduction of new fees, covered by the health insurance. The decision was taken because a large part of the fees for medical services don’t reflect the real costs incurred by the public health care providers and these haven’t been revised since 2011, Minister of Health Ala Nemerenco stated in the Cabinet’s meeting, IPN reports.

The minister noted that the introduction of new fees is necessary for implementing advanced methods of diagnosis and treatment, through high-performance medical equipment, which involves the use of expensive consumables. Consumables for very complicated ophthalmologic surgery, extracapsular cataract extraction with eye reconstruction elements, cost more than 10,000 lei, while the costs are now projected at several hundred lei.

The new fees will have no impact on medically insured persons and refer, in particular, to the contractual relations of the National Health Insurance Company with medical institutions.

The new rates will be applied from July 1, 2024. The medical institutions and the National Health Insurance Company need time to adjust their information systems to the approved fees.
