Several thousands of Moldovan students will study in Romanian education institutions in 2010-2011 and will rest at camps in Romania. The decision was reached by Moldovan Minister of Education Leonid Bujor and Romanian Minister of Education, Research, Youth and Sport Daniel Petru Funeriu at a meeting in Bucharest last weekend, Info-Prim Neo reports. Leonid Bujor told the Agency that the main topic discussed during the meeting was the protocol of cooperation between the two Education Ministries for 2010-2011. “We exchanged opinions and proposals over this protocol. We reached an agreement about the number of students that will be admitted to Romanian education establishments,” the minister said. For the 2010-2011 academic year, Romania will provide 950 places in high schools and colleges and 1,100 places in universities. Besides, 50 persons will study for their master's degree, 25 for their resident degree, while 25 for their doctorate. Bujor said Romania is also ready to offer 300 monthly scholarships to Moldovan teachers for refresher courses and 200 monthly grants to students for practical training as well as 2,000 free places in camps. According to the minister, they also discussed the possibility of opening branches of Romanian universities in Moldova. The Moldovan authorities will consider this proposal and take a decision. Another subject discussed was the reciprocal recognition of diplomas. The ministers decided to delegate by a group of experts that, by April 15, will formulate proposals for solving this problem. The Moldovan delegation also conferred with different Romanian education officials, including on the Education Law that is being drafted in Romania. It was assured that Moldova's education system will be supported at foreign level, including by involving Moldova in projects financed by the EU. The education ministers of Moldova and Romania met after a pause of more than five years.
