More than 6,000 persons seek help from authorities to return home

As many as 2,500 persons were transported home to Moldova by charter flights during the last two weeks after the declaring of the state of emergency. The waiting list currently includes 5,000-6,000 people, but the figure changes hourly, said Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Oleg Țulea. He noted that the authorities are working on a list based on which the future charter flights will be operated. The first come first served principle is no longer applied. Priority is given to particular categories of people, IPN reports.

“All the applications sent to us are processed, analyzed. There is a list that will be used for the next charter flights. The lists are compiled according to the priorities and priority is given to the minors, mothers with children, students and persons in serious difficulty,” Oleg Țulea stated in the talk show “Black Box” on TV8 channel.

According to the minister, less correct criteria were used for the charter flights operated last week. The Commission for Exceptional Situations decided to intervene and set down several rules. “The Civil Aviation Authority lays week was besieged with applications to accept charter flights. The airlines didn’t take particular aspects into account, like putting on the list of those who needed to return home the most. Those chaotic flights bothered us a lot. They left room for all kinds of swindles,” stated Oleg Țulea.

The administration of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration hopes that all the Moldovans who got stuck in European states will be brought home during a month. The prices of tickets on these charter flights should be appropriate to needs. “The flights are organized not only for transporting persons from one place to another. They are humanitarian in character.”

The Ministry recommends the Moldovans who are stuck outside the country’s borders to seek help from the migration services or the public authorities of the countries of residence so as to extend the right of stay or to benefit from internal exceptions in connection with the limitations imposed on border crossing.

Moldova’s embassies abroad recommend being contacted by email or through the Ministry’s Call Center.
