The number of tourists accommodated by hospitality establishments in Moldova during January-June 2017 rose by 7.5% from the similar period last year, the National Statistics Bureau reported.
Of the total 134,300 tourists lodged in this period, 64,700 or 48.2% were foreign tourists, and 69,600 or 51.8% were domestic tourists.
Most foreign tourists lodged came from Romania (24.1%), Ukraine (13.3%), Russia (9.0%), the United States (7.1%) etc.
The total number of nights stayed also rose by 7.4% from the similar period of 2016, to 590,700.
Of the total nights stayed, Moldovan tourists accounted for 77.9% and non-resident tourists for 22.1%. On average a tourist stayed 5.4 nights, with 7.6 for Moldovan tourists and 3 days for the non-resident ones.
However, the number of tourists accommodated by pensions and agripensions dropped dramatically, by 44.6%.
