Most active communities have been designated
The town of Briceni, the villages of Petresti from the Ungheni district and Peticeni form the Calarasi district have been designated as the most active communities within the campaign “Help Them Become Great People” (“Ajuta-l sa creasca OM MARE”).
The winners got prizes – a TV set and a karaoke DVD player. Other 14 aspiring localities received encouraging prizes at a ceremony that took place on Thursday, February 28, in Chisinau.
The drive “Ajuta-l sa creasca OM MARE” is unfolding within the “Education for All” project aimed at renewing or building 48 alternative kindergartens and education centres.
Nicoleta Panta, an expert with the campaign, says teams of volunteers have worked in each locality, wanting to identify the most vulnerable children and to help their families bring them to kindergartens or community centres.
250 so-called community agents were instructed and split into 48 teams.
Silvia Bernic, a project co-author from the Petresti village, has told Info-Prim Neo the efforts were bigger than initially thought. Due to the very receptive citizens, they managed to open a kindergarten in the village, costing 50,000 lei.
To implement this project, in 2006, Moldova got a grant offered by the Catalytic Trust Fund, worth USD4.4 mln. The money is managed by the World Bank, as the project is being implemented by the Education Ministry as part of the Consolidated Education Action Plan (2006-2008), technically supported by UNICEF, UNESCO and the Moldcell company.
