Most Ukrainians intend to transit Moldova, says Interior Minister

Unlike yesterday, most Ukrainian citizens that entered Moldova today declared that they intend to transit our country rather than find refuge here, Interior Minister Ana Revenco told a press briefing.

By 2:00PM, a total of 16,000 Ukrainian citizens crossed the border into Moldova. All border crossings are operational and additional shifts of border officers are provided. Border traffic remains intense even if queues have shrunk a little.

To date 386 asylum applications have been registered, including 90 today. The call center managed by the Migration and Asylum Office received about 450 calls. The multiple questions they asked served as a basis for making certain decisions in the Committee for Emergencies.

At the refugee accommodation centers, the situation remains unchanged. The capacity of the three opened centers is over a thousand places.

Compared to yesterday, more citizens are requesting transportation from the Palanca border crossing to Chisinau. Coaches are deployed for this purpose, but there are also civilian volunteers giving refugees free rides.
