A boy under two was admitted to the Municipal Hospital “Valentin Ignatenco” with brain injury, a concussion and face bruises. The child’s mother filed a complaint to the police, accusing her partner of ill-treatment.

Head of the Chisinau Police Division’s press service Adrian Jovmir has told IPN that the complaint was lodged the next day after the incident. The 23-year-old woman said she left the child in the care of her partner. When she returned, the man told her the boy fell from the baby carriage. The woman called an ambulance the next day as the child felt worse and worse. She also went to the police, which started a criminal case.

The woman’s partner aged 28 was put on the wanted list. He faces up to five years in jail on domestic violence charges.

Contacted by IPN, Liliana Rotaru, director of the Association “Child. Community. Family” Moldova, said that such incidents appear most often because of tensions caused by problems in the family or at work. Such cases can be prevented by the social workers, family doctors, educators and possibly neighbors. On a long-term, this phenomenon can be combated by education. At the kindergarten and at school, the children must be told that ill-treatment is banned and is punished.
