MP Grigore Petrenko’s mother arrested in Russia
The mother of the Communist lawmaker Grigore Petrenko was arrested in the Russian Federation. According to a communiqué from the Center for Combating Corruption and Economic Crime, Maria Petrenko, who heads a private high school with the same name based in Chisinau, is investigated for abuse of power and misappropriation, Info-Prim Neo reports.
It was established that in 2004-2009, the woman, while heading the mentioned high school, exceeded her authority and performed activities without a license. She groundlessly withdrew the lyceum’s statutory capital of 500 000 lei.
In breach of the law, the director did not indicate the tuition fees collected from students’ parents in the school’s financial accounts and withdrew money without documentary confirmation, creating thus debts to the state budget, employees and service providers and causing considerable damage to the public interests and private individuals.
The Center also determined that in 2009, the suspect used her position and collected 142 440 lei in fees for the 2009-2010 school year, but the planned lessons did not take place.
The instruction judge issued a warrant for the woman’s arrest for 20 days as she avoided prosecution. The necessary documents are now being prepared for the extradition of the suspect.
